Firefox 10 came out a few weeks ago and with it came some nice updates including a native ‘Inspect Element’ tool much like the one that’s been baked in to webkit for quite some time. This was a good step forward for the Mozilla team, but for most developer’s like myself who already use Firebug, this new feature may come with some frustration.

This ‘Inspect Element’ option has been added to the right-click menu in Firefox 10. It appears right above Firebug’s ‘Inspect Element with Firebug’ item, thus in many cases causing the seasoned Firebug user to accidentally click on the native ‘Inspect Element’ button – causing quite the frustration.

Firefox 10's Native Inspect Tool

Good news! This new feature in Firefox can be disabled by following the steps below.

In the address bar type “about:config” and hit Enter

Search for “inspector”

Double click the first item in the list, turning the value of “devtools.inspector.disabled” to “false”

Native Inspect Tool Disabled

That’s it, no need to restart the browser or close the tab you were working in. Simply right-click and enjoy the lack of the native ‘Inspect Element’ option.

In June of 2011, I left my job as Web Designer and Front-End Guru at ONeil Interactive for an open User Experience and Web Designer position at CentreTEK Solutions. The decision was not an easy one – but long story short (and a shorter drive to work) I still love what I do and love coming to work just as I did before.

The team here at CentreTEK is a tight one. Everyone gets along and has a good time, with a work-hard-play-hard mentality. One of those team members whom I’ve had some of the best laughs with is the energetic, funky and downright silly, in-house (although he goes out on-location for clients most of the time) IT guy – Forrest Burris. Back when I was doing my 365 project (which I have officially taken a break from), I proposed the idea of using him for one of my shots. The day I met him I knew he’d make a great subject. He immediately agreed and I just knew that the shot would soon get together would be great.

In the building here, we have some in-house servers that Forrest manages so we concocted the idea to incorporate them into the shot. Forrest transformed into a nerdy, IT creeper along with which came server racks, wire cutters, taped glasses and miles of LAN cable.

For those of you interested, the lighting setup included a total of two speedlights triggered by CactusV5 wireless triggers with one, bare flash just over Forrest’s left shoulder and another above the camera inside a 40″ Apollo softbox. Post processing was done in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

We had fun and weeks later Forrest sent out a mass email to the team here where it made a few laughs and the owner, Jay, blew it up, framed it and hung it on the office wall.

If you have time to read the story below, please do, it is worth your while.

Meet Mike Saddler. He is 56 years old, homeless, and one of the nicest, most down to earth people you’ll meet on Baltimore streets.

Let me start with a quick preface. Yesterday I was feeling quite unmotivated and my shot didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked it to. Even after tinkering with it in post, still, no dice. Today I set out on a mission, get a great shot, one of not me, but someone else for a change. And not family – I wanted it to be of a stranger.

On my way home from work I saw a man sitting at a bus stop. He looked to be in no rush so I stopped, parked, walked up to him with all my gear and politely asked “Could I take your picture?” He mumbled something and I had to ask him again. He had said no. I thanked him for his time and moved along. I walked up and down the street for another 10 minutes or so and then finally decided to call it quits and went home.

After dinner, I set out again. I went down into town looking for another stranger to shoot. When passing a local 7-11 I saw a homeless man who I had seen before. Right then I made my mind up that I was going to simply go and ask him for a picture. I pulled in, walked up and as I approached him, before I had a chance to speak I heard a “Hey Buddy, can you help me?” I replied with, “Well, I was hoping you could help me.”

I went on to describe my project, where I am in life, and he did the same. We found out we both grew up in the same town, graduated from the same high school, and love Baltimore sports. I never even asked for his story because I felt like I already had a good, positive one about tonight already.

Upon wrapping up he asked for a ride down the street so I gave him one – along with a few dollars. I ended up realizing that he probably helped me more than I did him. I wish you the best of luck Mike, I’m sure you’ll get things sorted out.

Today was another really nice, yet laid back day with the fam. We went to church where I got some really great pics of my son at his Easter Egg hunt (more like a free for all candy gorging). I was going to use a shot of him for today’s shot. Around 8PM as I was looking outside I saw what you see above and had to shoot it. My neighbors tree is absolutely beautiful when it blooms every Spring and as you can see I think I caught it a bit too late, but oh well, I still like it. I went for a vintage/lomo look when editing in post and I like how it turned out. If there’s enough interest maybe I’ll throw up a before/after. Hope everyone’s week starts off well.

I loved it and grew attached to the smooth interface, efficient OS and sweet apps. When the iPhone4 came out, I was in line at 5AM securing my spot in the iPhone4 club. Don’t get me wrong, I hate it when Mac snobs (I prefer Macs, but PCs have their place too), claim that the iPhone is the only phone to have and all others are far superior. I just love the interface and wonderful hardware. I get a kick out the people who claim the iPhone is the greatest phone but can’t tell you the display resolution or processor speed. Anywho… I love my phone.

I had no idea what I was going to shoot tonight but I did know it would be a simple self portait. Half way through snapping shots I got the idea you see above and I’m pretty happy with where it went. Upon sitting here and looking at it, I like how the stainless steel fridge background adds a surgical-like theme. Good night readers!

This shot made it to Flickr’s EXPLORE! Thank you to all my subscribers, readers and followers who helped make this happen!

Tonight I had a pretty hard time coming up with a decent shot. I went to several locations and just wasn’t feeling it. So I went to the beltway overpass in my town thinking, “You know what? Let the haters hate, I’m gonna do my thing and if people stare, they stare.” Public/street shots and stranger portraits are not my most confident areas – although they are my favorite once taken. People were watching me, trying to figure me out and some young punks were even yelling at me for a bit. I popped a bunch of shots and the more I took the more I thought I’ll just act like a total idiot . I didn’t care by the end, let the haters hate, I got the shot I wanted. Power to me, and every other photographer on Flickr that does self portraits – you know who you are – you’ve all been a true inspiration to me. Cheers for sticking it out and looking like a complete doofus in public just to get the shot you wanted. Rock on my fellow Flickr peeps.
